The number of photovoltaic systems in Upper Austria jumped above the 100,000 mark in the spring. There are currently around 108,000 PV systems on the roofs of the state. This means that more than half of the 200,000 PV roofs program, which is to be implemented by 2030, has already been achieved, said Energy Minister Markus Achleitner (VP) on Monday at the presentation of this year’s Upper Austrian energy report.

Upper Austria is also ahead of plan in terms of output. At 1,682 megawatts, this is 88 percent more than was planned in the stage plan for June 2024. The strong momentum is mainly due to the energy crisis, the increase in electricity prices and subsidies. Achleitner pointed out that they are also setting their own priorities, for example with the now expanded state subsidy for parking lot roofs with PV systems.
Gerhard Dell, managing director of the Energy Saving Association and state energy commissioner, sees Upper Austria “on the right track” with the energy transition. In 2022, for example, 76 percent of electricity generation came from renewable sources – according to initial trends for 2023, the share is likely to rise to more than 80 percent.
