Food prices rise more than 4% in June and overheat the data for the sixth month of the year

Analysts assure that it will be very difficult to see a new decline in inflation in June, as a result of the rate increases and the rise in food and beverages.

They rose half a percentage point and thus climbed to 4.1%.

In this context, the consultancy’s progress report Labor Capital & Growth (LCG) showed that average monthly inflation accelerated 0.5% and reached 4.1% in the last four weeks. Despite the fact that in the third week of the sixth month of the year inflation closed at 0.9% in the food and beverage segment, which implies a slowdown of 0.6% compared to the previous week.

“The percentage of products with increases decreased compared to the second week of June, as did the percentage of products with price drops (25% and 19%, respectively); while, 56% of the products surveyed did not suffer changes in their prices,” highlights the LCG document.

The report highlights that foods presented very varied indices. The list of increases is headed by dairy, meat, sugar and oil. Meanwhile, fruits and vegetables had a downward week.

  • Meat: 5.4%.
  • Oil: 4.3%.
  • Drinks: 4.3%.
  • Sugar: 4.2%.
  • Vegetables: 3.3%.
  • Condiments: 3.3%.
  • Bread: 2.8%.
  • Meals ready to go: 2.2%.
  • Fruits: -4.2%.

The document is conclusive in pointing out that although food prices register a slight slowdown, they continue to rise week by week. They rose half a percentage point and thus climbed to 4.1%.
