Air traffic: Air France expects a drop in revenue due to Olympics

Forget about good business with the Olympics – Air France is not expecting much good from the Summer Games in Paris. Passengers are drawn to other places.

Air France is expecting fewer passengers and fewer revenues this summer due to the Olympic Games in Paris. Air France-KLM says it is observing that Paris is being avoided as a travel destination in the summer. Traffic to and from the French capital is lower than the expected traffic to and from other major European cities.

The number of trips from Paris to other destinations is also below the usual average for the June-August period, as French residents are apparently postponing their holidays until after the Olympics or considering alternative travel options, explains Air France. Revenues for the summer season are under pressure due to the Olympic Games in Paris.

Therefore, Air France-KLM currently expects revenue losses of between 160 million and 180 million euros for the period June to August 2024. Travel patterns to and from France are expected to normalize after the Olympic Games, which will be organized from July 16 to August 11. According to Air France, encouraging demand levels are expected for the end of August and September.
