Tesla Grünheide: These revealing documents put Woidke under pressure

There would be no special treatment for Tesla, promised Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke. Internal protocols suggest the opposite. Even behind closed doors, Woidke apparently did not criticize Tesla’s legal violations

It was one of the big promises that Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke, SPD, made to the citizens of his state early on: There would be no “Lex Tesla” when building the Tesla factory in Grünheide, no special treatment for the US carmaker and global corporation owned by multi-billionaire Elon Musk. Brandenburg would insist on the rules that apply to every investor. His government, Woidke emphasized in interviews, would also not put pressure on approval authorities to make exceptions in Musk’s favor. “We would be well advised to have the patience to work through the individual procedural steps in a legally sound manner,” he said in December 2020, for example.
