Some flight tickets have become cheaper in the first half of the year. However, the situation is quite different for package holidays and tickets to the main travel areas.
Despite an average drop in the price of airline tickets, passengers have to pay more for European flights and package holidays. International flights were on average 3.1 percent cheaper in the first half of 2024 than a year earlier, according to the Federal Statistical Office. However, this is mainly due to the lower prices to America, Australia and Asia. For flights to other European countries, however, the companies charged an average of 2.7 percent more than a year ago.
Destinations in Africa have also become 4.1 percent more expensive. In any case, the very high price level from 2023 has hardly been left behind: Compared to the first half of 2022, all tickets were on average 20.9 percent more expensive.
For package tours, which mostly lead to destinations in Europe or North Africa, guests had to pay 5.2 percent more than in the first half of 2023. Compared to 2022, this is an increase of 19 percent.
Statisticians recorded the largest price increase of 7.6 percent for trips to Turkey. The Canary Islands (+6.7 percent) and Balearic Islands (+6.3 percent) in Spain and Greece (+4.5 percent) also increased. Trips to Egypt became cheaper. Package holidays within Germany, on the other hand, only increased in price by 1.1 percent.
