IT problems: After flight cancellations: rush at the English Channel

Many airline passengers stranded in the UK due to the global IT outage are trying their luck on the English Channel. The managing director of the Port of Dover is encouraging them – on one condition.

After numerous flight cancellations due to global computer problems, many travelers in Great Britain are switching to connections across the English Channel. The port of Dover is urging people to make a reservation in advance.

“We are seeing hundreds of stranded airline passengers arriving at the port. Please ensure you have a booking before you arrive,” said a statement from the ferry port on the English Channel.

If necessary, download a ticket on the way

In the morning there had initially been reports of long waiting times on the main ferry route from Great Britain to France.

Kent County Council warned against travelling to the ferry port or Eurotunnel without a reservation. “Both Dover ferries and the car train are not accepting unregistered passengers today. Please book in advance before travelling to the port,” said the message on X.

The port’s managing director, Doug Bannister, nevertheless called on stranded passengers to come to Dover. “We have capacity,” he told the British news agency PA. If necessary, people should buy and download a ticket en route.

As a result of the global IT problems, numerous flights were cancelled at several airports in Great Britain on Friday. Many holidaymakers were therefore unable to start their trips as planned.
