Nothing can be changed in commercial aircraft without official approval. And not by just anyone. But now Lufthansa Technik has received an important license.
In future, Lufthansa Technik will be allowed to modify the cabin interior of Boeing 787 aircraft and have it approved by the authorities. The Hamburg-based company announced a corresponding license agreement with the US manufacturer at the air show in Farnborough, Great Britain. Lufthansa Technik is now the first company in the world with such far-reaching powers. Until now, modifications to cabin interiors and their certification by the supervisory authorities were the responsibility of the manufacturer. The Handelsblatt was the first to report this.
The license increases the range of services for airline customers from 1,132 “Dreamliners” delivered since 2011. Lufthansa Technik says it offers the entire range of services related to such a conversion and refers to its own experience with aircraft for private individuals or special missions. An aircraft cabin is modernized approximately every seven years, Handelsblatt quotes Lufthansa manager Andrew Muirhead as saying.
