The Government confirmed that it is extending the date to register in the RASE

According to Adorni, the RASE registration period has been extended until September 4. This extends the deadline for accessing and/or maintaining the benefits in the price of residential energy services by one month.

Subsidies for electricity and gas: until when is there time to register?

The Secretary of Energy seeks to “debug” the Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE) with a thorough cross-checking of data, in line with the official objective of reducing State spending as much as possible, so that almost two million residential users They must re-register in the census.

The Resolution 90/2024 on Energy establishes that about 1,700,000 users who were automatically incorporated into the RASE as low-income households (N2), must re-enter the system individually before the Next August 5th.

Households are divided into three categories based on the income levels they receive according to the subsidy segmentation in force since 2022:

  • High income (N1)
  • Low income (N2)
  • Average Income (N3)

The latest official data show that there are 5.3 million N1s, 8 million N2s and 2.7 million N3s.

Those who do not complete the procedure will be classified as N1 and, therefore, will lose the electricity subsidy.

In the case of gas, the regulatory body (Enargas) has more information because the subsidy is granted at a national level, so the Government has more tools to “clean it up.”

Winter rates with increases of 1,200%: electricity and gas bills in August will reach six figures

Families living in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) need more than $140,000 in July to pay utility rates, according to a report from the Observatory of Tariffs and Subsidies of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Political Economy (IIEP)which depends on the UBA and Conicet. However, The greatest economic impact of the removal of subsidies, the rise in prices and the increase in electricity and gas consumption is expected to be felt in August and September.

The UBA-Conicet analysis calculated that an average household in the AMBA needs $142,645 to cover their energy, transportation and drinking water needs during the seventh month of the year, which implies that the cost of the total basket of public services increased 374% compared to December 2023, when it reached $30,100.

The increase so far this year is explained by the updates to transportation rates (January and February), electricity (February and June), water and natural gas (April and June).

Likewise, natural gas and electricity consumption are adjusted by the seasonality of demand: the lower the temperature, the higher the level of consumption. That is, Energy bills are becoming more expensive due to rising prices and increased consumption.
