Crustacean production accounted for most of the increase. In the first half of the year, the cumulative increase was 23.3%.

Fishing has established itself as one of the sectors that has avoided the crisis and in June it registered its highest monthly growth of 2024. The production of crustaceans (mainly shrimp and prawns) accounted for most of the increase.

According to the Fishing Industrial Production Index (IPIP), the activity of the sector grew 21.6% compared to May. Likewise, compared to June 2023, the increase was 35.5%.

Thus, In the first half of the year, the cumulative growth was 23.3%. During this period, the species that presented the best performance were the molluskswith 44.6%; followed by crustaceans, with 16.4% and fish, with 7.2%.

The landings made by freezer ships explained most of this dynamic, although in June those that grew the most were those carried out by fresh fish vessels.

“The IPI for maritime fishing presents a changing seasonal pattern and a lot of irregularity. Therefore, it is likely that, as new data are incorporated into the original series, there will be frequent revisions of the historical values already published in the seasonally adjusted and trend-cycle series,” INDEC clarified.
