The weather in June was not particularly conducive to traveling. Some people also lacked the necessary funds. But one group is doing a great job in the overnight stay statistics.
Also due to the European Football Championship, accommodation providers in Germany counted more overnight stays than ever before in the first half of 2024. 223.2 million overnight stays were registered in the six months, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office. That was almost 870,000 overnight stays or 0.4 percent more than in the first half of 2019, the previous record period.
June was comparatively weak with 48.7 million overnight stays. This is a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to the same month last year. This was solely due to the reluctance of domestic tourists to travel, as 8.7 million overnight stays were reported by foreign guests thanks to football. This was 15.7 percent more than a year earlier and the highest June figure ever recorded. All accommodation establishments with more than ten beds are included.
