Fuel prices: Petrol price falls to annual low – diesel also cheaper

In the middle of the summer travel season, fuel prices continue to fall. A look at oil prices and the dollar exchange rate shows why.

The price of petrol has fallen to its lowest level of the year. According to the ADAC, drivers have to pay an average of 1.715 euros for a litre of Super E10 – that is 1.8 cents less than a week ago. The last time petrol was cheaper was on New Year’s Eve.

Diesel is also slightly cheaper than last week: one litre now costs an average of 1.59 euros – that’s 1.3 cents less than last week and the lowest level since June 2023.

The main reasons for the falling fuel prices are a falling oil price and a stronger euro compared to the dollar: Brent crude oil currently costs only around 77 US dollars per barrel. The euro is at an annual high of 1.11 dollars per euro.

The ADAC recommends that drivers fill up in the evening if possible. Prices are lowest between 7 and 8 p.m. and between 9 and 10 p.m. “In the morning around 7 a.m., however, they are six to seven cents higher.” Motorway petrol stations are expensive: a recent ADAC sample shows that petrol costs around 40 cents per liter more there than off the motorway.
