Before state elections: BDI President Russwurm criticizes AfD in Thuringia

BDI President Russwurm accuses the AfD of economic incompetence ahead of the state elections in Thuringia. He is particularly clear on one issue.

The President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), Siegfried Russwurm, has sharply criticized the AfD ahead of the state elections in Thuringia. He fears that the AfD’s aggressive xenophobia will exacerbate the existing problem of the shortage of skilled workers in Germany, Russwurm told the “Welt” newspaper.

He also specifically attacked the Thuringian AfD leader Björn Höcke. He had previously railed against the “Made in Germany – Made by Diversity” initiative and wished economic damage to the companies involved. The BDI leader said the comments were alarming for the economy and showed the party’s incompetence. Höcke’s comments showed “that AfD participation in government would massively damage the economy and prosperity in East Germany,” emphasized Russwurm. The party wrongly portrays itself as the voice of the local medium-sized business community.
