Four years after its initial launch, the stable version of “Actually Smart Summon” is now available. It is smartphone-only and allows the passenger to command the vehicle to automatically navigate to the destination.

In October of 2019, Tesla introduced the function in beta phase “Smart Summon”, that allowed users to call their vehicle autonomously using a smartphone. As expected from a beta feature, it wasn’t long before the first incidents.

Now, four years later, Tesla releases the stable version of this feature under the name “Actually Smart Summon” (ASS)included in the update 2024.27.20. In addition, this version includes improvements to the Full Self-Driving (FSD) autonomous driving system. Only available in the US.

What is “Actually Smart Summon”

“Actually Smart Summon” is designed for Tesla electric vehicles to automatically navigate to the user’s location, that It is fixed by GPS from the smartphone. The vehicle can move autonomously towards the destination as long as the distance is relatively shortworking only when the car is at about 65 meters from the phone.

Regulatory Challenges

Implementing “Actually Smart Summon” has not been easy. The feature has faced oversight from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).which examined the possible risks when the beta was launched in 2019. Despite the challenges, the feature has made progress.
