In this regard, Genua said: “We are aware that online gambling addiction in children and adolescents is a scourge that occurs under the protection of websites that promote illegal gambling. For this reason, we are committed to working jointly with other organizations to prevent the development of these illegal platforms, and to promote initiatives that promote responsible digital citizenship, taking care of the mental health and emotional development of children.”
For his part, Ozores said: “We understand the seriousness of the situation. For this reason, every time a judicial document arrives at the agency requesting the blocking of access to illegal betting sites, we immediately inform the country’s internet service provider companies and the Chambers and Federations that group them so that they can carry it out.”
In line with that, he added: “ENACOM plays the role of intermediary between justice and internet providers. So far in 2024, there have already been more than a thousand cases in which the agency has acted to facilitate the blocking of clandestine betting sites.”
Finally, she referred to the different measures taken by the Government to deal with this problem: “We met with different institutions and organizations to join the fight against this scourge. At ENACOM we want all Argentines to be free to choose which platforms, apps and websites to access, but within a framework of legality and responsibility to protect the health of children and adolescents.”
There is a special prosecutor’s office in the city against child gambling addiction
The head of government, Jorge Macri, had signed an agreement in July with the City’s Attorney General, John Baptist Mahiquesto coordinate and articulate Actions related to gambling addiction in children and adolescentsThe agreement seeks to create links of collaboration and institutional cooperation on this topic.
“Juan Mahiques proposed that we work from a prosecutor’s office to provide a rapid response and be able to react against very serious problems such as illegal betting sites. We are committed to this challenge and we will always protect and guarantee the rights of children and adolescents,” said Jorge Macri when announcing the case.
“Just as the Justice Department took an important step by creating a Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, we from the Executive blocked betting sites on the public network and limited licenses, among other actions. The Legislative Branch is working on the unification of projects to create a comprehensive law,” added the Head of Government.
To date, more than 23,000 adolescents have been trained, and guardianship and psychopedagogical assistance are provided to minors who are victims of illegal gambling. In addition, teachers and management teams will be trained to know how to address this issue in the classroom.
