New conclave of Peronist governors to recover national funds, agree on legislative agenda and reorganize the PJ

Peronist governors will meet this Wednesday at the Casa de La Pampain the Federal Capital, to continue coordinating actions on how to position themselves against the president’s government Javier Mileiin a scenario of constant measures that remove the State from the financing of public works, transportation, health, education and social containment. The meeting will also take place within the framework of the internal reorganization that the Justicialist Party is undergoing, in view of the 2025 legislative elections, in which 24 national senators and 127 national deputies will be renewed.

The leaders will arrive at noon at the building on Suipacha 300, where they will be received by the host, Sergio Zillioto. So far, they confirmed Scope the presence of Axel Kicillof (Buenos Aires), Ricardo Quintela (Rioja), Gildo Insfran (Formosa) and two governors would also join who, not being Peronists, are active partners of the bloc, such as Gerardo Zamora (Santiago del Estero) and Gustavo Melella (Land of Fire).

For consultations, there is doubt about the attendance of Raul Jalil (Catamarca) who, for now, is in contact with some of his Justicialist peers but maintains a close link with the Casa Rosada, to the point that he would be working on the creation of a legislative bloc that would make his national deputies from Unión por la Patria (UP) abandon their party. An action that mirrors what Osvaldo Jaldo (Tucumán) already did, which is why his attendance at the meeting is ruled out.

Peronist governors and allies meet in the City

A source reported that these types of meetings have been held for at least two months, every two weeks, and are held in person, when the agendas can be agreed upon, or via Zoom. “The idea is not to lose contact and coordinate, not to act alone”said a confidant of one of the provincial leaders who will attend the Casa de La Pampa this Wednesday.

The relevance of this lies in the fact that it occurs in a scenario of a veto of the Retirement Mobility Law and a similar measure that the Executive Branch would adopt with the University Financing Law. Congress is expected to insist, so every vote in the Senate and the House of Representatives will be crucial, and the leaders are also working on that score, as is the Casa Rosada. It is also not ruled out that a common position may be agreed upon or advanced regarding the nomination of Judge Ariel Lijo, which the Government submitted to Congress, to be a member of the Supreme Court of Justice. So far, there has been silence.

In Córdoba, graffiti and posters of Ricardo Quintela, president of the PJ, appeared.

It is assumed that the reorganization of Peronism will also be discussed at the negotiating table, whose internal elections are scheduled for November 17, a scenario in which, for now, a firm candidate, Quintela from La Rioja, will take office, a campaign that started in Córdoba with the appearance of graffiti and posters. “I want to be a presidential candidate for the PJ and I seek to be a consensus candidate. That the majority agrees with our candidacy. It has to be a team where all the provinces are represented, very federal, in which all the sectors are present,” the Riojan said a few days ago in an interview.

Public works and funding cuts

Other concerns have a common denominator the cut in resources from the Nation, which creates gaps in the provinces that the governors, those who can, cover with their own resources. Still, in all districts it is felt and has generated concern in the last hours the assertion of Federico Sturzenegger, Minister of Deregulation of the State of the Nation, in a presentation at the Mediterranean Foundation, where he said that “Public works are no longer available”.

Before the approval of the Ley Bases and the signing of the Pact of May, in July, in Tucumánthe leaders signed agreements with the Nation for the continuation of some national works and the transfer of others to the provinces. The progress was minimal and even leaders of Juntos por el Cambio have already expressed their displeasure at the failure to comply with these commitments.

Some governors, such as Quintela, have filed appeals before the Supreme Court of Justice to recover the funds that the Casa Rosada ran the chainsaw over, despite the existence of laws that guarantee them. These include the Transportation Compensation Fund, the Teacher Incentive, Fiscal Strengthening and the lack of execution of trust funds for works.
