The Federal Autobahn GmbH has been responsible for the 13,000-kilometer-long network of motorways in Germany since 2021. The company is struggling with budget planning.
The federally owned motorway company has announced a savings program. In a management employee information document available to the German Press Agency, it is stated with regard to the draft federal budget for 2025 that the funding requirement could not be fully covered.
The employee information states that a consolidation program is being launched. Costs will be reduced, resources used more efficiently, and processes streamlined. This applies especially to administration. Jobs are secure.
All externally purchased support services and consultancy contracts should be reviewed. The increase in personnel will be focused on the operationally and strategically relevant areas. The urgently needed increase in personnel in operational services will continue as planned.
While there should be a slight increase in investment funds and a significant increase in funds in the coming years, the budget for planning, operation and administration will remain unchanged next year and in the years to come. “This means: We have to make do with this money and focus,” it says. According to the draft budget for 2025, around 6.1 billion euros are earmarked for investments and around 2.3 billion euros for the planning, operation and administration of Autobahn GmbH.
