Why is Teachers’ Day celebrated every September 11 in Argentina?
Considered the “Father of the Classroom”, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento was a politician, educator, teacher, journalist, writer, philosopher, statesman and military man. He was president of the nation between 1868 and 1874. Teachers’ Day was established in commemoration of the date of his death, September 11, 1888.
But the date was not decreed at that time; it was necessary to wait until 1943, when the First Conference of Ministers and Directors of Education of the American Republics was held in Panama, for the project to emerge that ended up being realized in 1945 under the presidency of Edelmiro Farrell.
