Why is International Day of Democracy celebrated every September 15?
Almost 10 years later, on 15 November 1997, the Parliamentary Union adopted the Universal Declaration of Democracy. Establishing that date as the International Day of Democracy, Corazon Aquino was elected president in the Philippines after 20 years of the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos, in 1986.
From there, International Conferences began, with the aim of discussing the importance of preserving democracies throughout the world and finally establishing a day in honor of this human right in 1997.
