Gerardo Molinaro, VP Land Drilling of DLS, He discussed the use of technology to achieve greater efficiency and productivity during the third panel on Energy and Mining of Scope of debate.
During the panel, titled “Services, the indispensable partners for growth” and moderated by the editor of Ámbito and Energy Report, Sebastian Penelli, Molinaro defined DLS as “a technology and engineering services company for the oil industry that employs almost 2,000 people and is a leader in drilling services in Argentina, both in Vaca Muerta and in the San Jorge Gulf Basin, that is, in the unconventional and the conventional.”
Technology, security and productivity
On the role of technology in the sector, he considered that “it is an essential element in the pursuit of efficiency and productivity, as well as in the generation of new business opportunities.”
“DLS Archer continually invests in technological development in our drilling services, which today entail a decisive technological contribution to nourish information on the performance, efficiency and productivity of each of the wells,” he said.
And he explained: “Today in Vaca Muerta, between vertical drilling and horizontal drilling, we are reaching 8,000 meters of drilling. That was unthinkable 10 years ago. and today going horizontally gives you a much higher level of efficiency, with a very short movement between wells.”
In turn, Molinaro highlighted the security as a fundamental capital. “For us it is an essential value, we transmit it permanently. It is impossible to gain efficiency and productivity if you are not confident in every action,” he pointed out.
“Argentina has made constant development since the start of Vaca Muerta and today it is very competitive at an international level,” He praised it, while valuing that there are no longer obstacles to imports: “Today the situation is absolutely normalized, you do not have any kind of problem accessing the MULC. This has freed us from a management that did not add value and Today you can really focus on analyzing and looking for investments or opportunities.”
Potential capacity is higher than reality
Thinking ahead, Molinaro stressed that “Argentina’s potential in the energy industry is far greater than reality” He added: “Today we have a potential capacity that exceeds our day-to-day reality. I believe that this potential opportunity must be realized through investments.”
“Argentina has had the capacity to do this from the start and that is what has brought us here. Let us think that Vaca Muerta started 12 years ago and beyond the different governments it was always a priority,” express.
Referring to the RIGI, he said that “the fact that the possibility of new investments is opening up today is key” and mentioned “three concepts that will lead us to develop the resource: investment, efficiency and productivity.”
“To materialize the resource into reality you need investment, but what will make you competitive in the world is being efficient and productive, which means the opportunity is huge,” the DLS representative highlighted.

In the long term, Molinaro stated: “Going to 2030, a closer horizon, what we see is an opportunity for development and exponential growth for the entire industry.”
