A Tui survey reveals what is popular with holidaymakers – and which trends could determine the coming travel year. It’s about Tiktok, special business trips and astrology.
Anyone who wants to travel is inspired by platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok. This is the result of a survey conducted by the market research institute Appinio on behalf of the travel group Tui. According to the survey, 69.3 percent of those surveyed said they look for ideas for their next vacation on social networks. The most popular platform for 21.2 percent of those surveyed was YouTube.
Which travel trends will be popular in the next travel year. An overview:
With the whole family: According to the survey, 71.1 percent of Germans travel with their immediate family. For some of those surveyed (16.3 percent), family friendliness is therefore important. 17.8 percent also take their grandparents along.
For yourself: According to Tui, traveling alone is also becoming increasingly popular. 17.2 percent of Germans travel alone – preferably to Europe (42 percent), within Germany (19.5 percent) or to Asia (10.5 percent). Around a third of those surveyed attach particular importance to safety.
Home holidays popular – Baltic Sea most popular
On the doorstep: Around a quarter of Germans are planning a holiday in Germany. The desire for a holiday at home is greatest among people from Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The favourite domestic destinations are: Baltic Sea (40.1 percent), North Sea (35.2 percent) and Lake Constance (21.8 percent).
Bleisure travel: “Bleisure” is made up of the English words business and leisure; it is the combination of business travel and vacation. This is particularly popular in the USA. “A real trend that is also finding favor in Germany,” it was said.
Astrology plays a role in holiday planning for many
Sun, moon and stars: For around a quarter of Germans, astrology influences their travel planning. According to the survey, 29 percent of 18- to 44-year-olds checked the stars to see if it was a good time to travel.
For the survey, 2,000 people in Germany were interviewed in a representative online survey between May 17 and 22.
Tui benefits from travel enthusiasm
Tui Germany boss Stefan Baumert expects strong demand next year. The company is currently expanding its range of inexpensive trips and city breaks, he said. The desire to travel is unbroken.
In August, Tui presented its figures for the third quarter. The hotel business with brands such as Riu, Tui Blue and Robinson has recently grown significantly and cruises also remained in demand. A total of 5.8 million guests travelled with Tui by the end of June – four percent more than a year ago. All in all, the company exceeded analysts’ sales and profit expectations and even spoke of a record quarter.
