In the midst of the crisis at VW, the car manufacturer’s collective bargaining round is starting today. IG Metall is reaffirming its willingness to fight and is demanding concrete statements from the company regarding possible savings.
At the start of the collective bargaining negotiations, IG Metall has demanded concrete statements from VW regarding the planned job cuts. “We expect answers today,” said Lower Saxony’s IG Metall district manager and negotiator Thorsten Gröger before the start of the collective bargaining talks in Hanover. “We expect the negative scenario to end.” Because: “You can’t build a future with fear – you destroy the future with fear!”
VW works council chairwoman Daniela Cavallo reiterated: “The equal importance of job security and profitability is non-negotiable,” she said. “Of course, we currently have serious problems in terms of profitability. But you can’t solve them by threatening to close factories.”
Gröger announced massive resistance. “We are only at the beginning of a serious dispute with the company.” Warning strikes are also possible from December 1st. “If necessary, tens of thousands of people will be standing in front of the factory gates and on the streets at Volkswagen locations.”
