Tesla: Musk declares high levels of sickness in Grünheide to be a matter for the boss

Home visits to employees who are often on sick leave – Tesla in Grünheide recently made headlines with this approach. Now the boss Elon Musk has also spoken out.

Because of the high level of sickness at the Tesla factory in Grünheide, company boss Elon Musk wants to get a personal picture of the situation. “That sounds crazy. I’ll look into it,” he commented on an X-post that discussed the supposedly exceptionally high sickness rate at the plant.

Tesla recently caused a stir by frequently paying home visits to employees at the Grünheide plant who were on sick leave. Home visits are nothing unusual – “many companies do that,” said plant manager André Thierig to the German Press Agency. “We wanted to appeal to the morale of the workforce.” IG Metall, on the other hand, criticizes the very high workload in the car factory and called the home visits an “absurd action”.

According to Tesla, the trigger for the unannounced home visits was an above-average level of sickness in the summer months. “At times it reached 15 percent or more,” said Thierig. In Grünheide in Brandenburg, Tesla has been manufacturing electric cars for more than two years. According to the company, almost 12,000 employees work there.
