ANMAT banned the sale of an insect repellent and a brand of honey

The National Administration of Drugs, Foods and Medical Technology (ANMAT) banned mosquito repellentand some food products such as a brand of honey, one of pickles and one of puffed corn.

The measure was published in the Official Gazette as provision 8833/2024which indicates that the decision was made for violating some key regulations. As a consequence, “preparation, fractionation and marketing” was disabled of the mentioned products.

Sale of insect repellent banned

He insect repellent “MOS OUT”was banned by ANMAT because the Department of Home Sanitary, Cosmetics and Personal Hygiene Products detected that the data presented by the product did not belong to a repellent registered with the agency.

Its production was prohibited in “all batches, presentations and expirations,” according to the provision. There it is also assured that the decision was made to “protect users”.

More precisely, the official measure states that “the establishment that was in charge of its preparation is unknown” and for that very reason “it is not possible to provide guarantees about its effectiveness, safety, and/or formulation with ingredients permitted by current applicable regulations.”

The organization prohibited the “Multifloral Bee Honey” belonging to the brand “The Apiary” because the product did not have a current National Food Product Registry (RNPA) number or National Establishment Registry (RNE) number.

These records certify the fitness of products to be distributed and consumed without problems for citizens. By not showing these numbers, ANMAT highlights that the honey was “falsely labeled”

It is stated that the item was disabled “in any presentation, batch and expiration date,” and it is unknown if it could be repositioned on the shelves for sale.
