Russian attacks repeatedly cause damage to civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. In the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, the water supply for over 200,000 people is now affected.
According to authorities, around 260,000 people in the north of the Ukrainian Donetsk region have lost their water supply “for the foreseeable future” following Russian shelling. The cities of Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kostyantynivka and surrounding towns are affected, said Governor Vadym Filaschkin on Telegram.
Last Wednesday, two systems belonging to the local water supplier were severely damaged. It is currently not technically possible to resume work. Alternative options for water supply are being worked on.
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years. Moscow claims over a fifth of Ukrainian territory. More than half of the Donetsk region, including the regional capital of the same name, is under Russian control.
