Deutsche Bahn announces higher ticket prices for long-distance transport

Traveling by train is becoming more expensive in Germany. Because Deutsche Bahn is raising the prices for some of its tickets. How much travelers will soon pay.

From mid-December, passengers on Deutsche Bahn’s long-distance transport will sometimes have to pay more money. So-called flex prices will be an average of 5.9 percent more expensive, the price for the Bahncard 100 will be increased by an average of 6.6 percent, as the federally owned company announced. The prices for the BahnCard 25 and 50 will not change. Season tickets, on the other hand, are on average 5.9 percent more expensive.

According to the information, the savings and super savings prices also remain stable. The railway offers a certain quota of these per trip. When the timetable changes, the starting prices should be 17.99 euros for the super saver tickets and 21.99 euros for the saver tickets. If the quotas are used up, passengers have to book the more expensive flex tickets. However, the railway points out that eight out of ten customers currently benefit from the savings tickets.

Deutsche Bahn: Old prices apply until December 14th

The railway justifies the price increase with “economic challenges and the significantly increased costs, especially as a result of the recent collective agreements”. The new prices for the Bahncard 100 also take into account the price increase of nine euros for the Germany ticket.

Tickets for the new timetable, which applies from December 15th, can be booked from October 16th. According to the railway, the old prices will still apply until December 14th.

Last year, the railway also raised the Flex prices, as well as the Bahncard 25. Both became more expensive by an average of around 5 percent. When the timetable changed in December 2022, the flex price rose by 6.9 percent.
