The 50th edition of the Pilgrimage to Luján 2024 will be held from 10 this Saturday, October 5 and will last until sunday 6. Under the motto “Mother, under your gaze we seek unity”, thousands of faithful will walk from the Sanctuary of Saint Cajetanin Liniers, bound for Sanctuary of Our Lady of Luján.

In total, the walk extends 63 kilometers and crosses important districts of the province of Buenos Aires, such as Morón, Merlo, Moreno and General Rodríguez. For the event there will be available 50 health posts along National Route No. 7 and, in addition, There will be street closures and additional train service.

Pilgrimage to Luján: what the event will be like

Once again, thousands of faithful will march to demonstrate their faith in 50th edition of the iconic Youth Pilgrimage to Luján. It will begin this Saturday, October 5, in Liniers, heading to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Luján.

Hundreds of thousands of faithful are expected to pilgrimage in a new edition of the religious event.

The Pilgrim Image of the Virgin of Luján will be transported, this year, by the diocese of Laferrere. Then, on Sunday, October 6, the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Monsignor Jorge García Cuervawill preside over the traditional 7 a.m. mass at the Basilica of Luján in front of thousands of faithful.

During the journey, along National Route No. 7 there will be 15 support points and 50 health stops. There volunteers will offer free assistance to anyone who needs it. They will also be present members of the Red Cross.

Additionally, they will be installed 40 stalls offering free cookiescereal bars and candy. For its part, the company AySA will implement an operation with 13 tanker trucks and 5 hydration pointswhere bags of drinking water will be provided to pilgrims.

Finally, a field hospital will also be established at the Control Bridge and on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Luján between 25 de Mayo and Almirante Brown.

What streets will be closed for the Pilgrimage to Luján

Every year, the religious event brings together thousands of people who walk to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Luján. Thus, different points along the route may see their normal traffic affected between Friday and Sunday, for the safety of pilgrims. Thus, the confirmed cuts will be:

  • Total cut in Bynon, between Cuzco and Bueras
  • Total cut in Cuzco, between Avenida Rivadavia and Amadeo Jacques
  • Reduction of one lane on Avenida Rivadavia towards the province

Additionally, in the Municipality of General Rodríguez there will be street closures such as Demaestri, Hipólito Yrigoyen and Aristóbulo del Valle. Finally, the only level crossings that will remain open are those on Avenida España (Av.Perón) and Avenida San Martín (Av. 25 de Mayo), as well as the Las Latas level crossing.

Pilgrims will enter the city of Luján through Las Heras Street, with a meeting point in Plaza Belgrano, in front of the Basilica of Luján.

Trenes Argentinos will offer additional services

Due to the massive event, Trenes Argentinos announced additional services on the Sarmiento line. The same will be in the branches Eleven – Moreno and Moreno – Mercedes during Sunday, October 6.

Thus, special electric trains will leave Liniers to Moreno at 2:27 and since Moreno to Liniers at 1:26 already Castelar at 3:35.

On the other hand, the special diesel services between Moreno and Luján will circulate at the 1.30, 4:15 and 6:25 on Sunday. Finally, from the Luján station frequencies will circulate at 2:35, 5:20 and 7:30.
