Alla Jen Skintapes test: Wrinkle plasters from DHDL in the star check

Many beauty product manufacturers have already promised to make wrinkles disappear overnight. Our author tests whether this works with Alla Jen tapes from DHDL.

As someone who enjoys life – with a glass of wine, a drink and a night of partying – I have to admit that the first fine lines are slowly but surely appearing on my forehead. Due to this realization, I decided to try out a product from “The Lion’s Den”: Skintapes from Alla Jen. The small patches for the face promise to turn back time overnight and undo small wrinkles. The plan is simple: stick it on in the evening after showering, let it work at night and admire the youthful glow in the morning. My test shows how it really happens.

Alla Jen Skintapes: The first impression

I try eye tapes for wrinkles on my eyes against forehead and frown lines and against smile lines on the mouth. The packaging is reminiscent of traditional drugstore face masks, which feel like putting a slippery piece of fabric on your face. Alla Jen’s masks are different, more pleasant at first glance. They are more reminiscent of plasters that you put on abrasions than of the result of long evenings in the pub that appear in the form of indentations on your face.

Our author holds a skin tape from Alla Jen in front of the packaging.

When I opened the sachets – as is often the case with other face masks – I didn’t come across any wellness scents that were supposed to say: After use, you smell like the sales floor of a perfume store chain. These things don’t smell like anything. Even if the labels on the bags suggest otherwise: goji berries and Sichuan pepper are contained in the plasters and are on the list directly under hyaluronic acid – the product that is supposed to iron my face.

The test

After a warm shower that removes everyday dirt from my face, I apply the skin tapes with surgical precision to my forehead, temples and corners of my mouth. Looking in the mirror is promising. A mixture of 90s rapper Nelly, who apparently went overboard with plasters on his face, and Jenke von Wilmsdorff, who tests cosmetic surgery for television, is standing opposite me. A quick selfie and then off to bed.

The next morning, after a night full of pleasant dreams and the feeling of having my face tightly stapled, I tear off the tape expectantly. Ouch! Removing it is reminiscent of hair removal procedures that do not produce much of a feeling of wellness. Then the look in the mirror.

Alla Jen Skintapes: The result

Well, what can I say? I look… the same as before. Maybe a little wrinkled as I haven’t had a coffee yet. Forehead, eyes, corners of mouth? Unchanged. The wrinkles? Still there. What remains are dry-looking areas where the pavement sat. In my case there is no immediate effect, but longer-term use may help – every two days is recommended according to the manufacturer. My conclusion: Anyone who expects that skin tapes will turn back time after one application will probably be disappointed. And for me personally, the hype surrounding the beauty patches has remained exactly that: a hype.

The founders Alla and Jennifer are looking for investors in the show “The Lions’ Den”. The two are offering 20 percent shares in the company for 125,000 euros. Will one of the lions bite or will the inventors of Alla Jen Skintapes come away empty-handed? You’ll find out tonight from 8:15 p.m. on Vox.
