This small town is called Villa Lake Meliquina. Its name means “four corners” and it began to become known in 1977, when the owners of a ranch decided to divide and sell the lands near Lake Meliquina.
Originally, Villa Lago Meliquina was just a passage point between Bariloche and San Martín de los Andes. However, its destiny changed in 1998, when the famous Route of the Seven Lakeswhich connects San Martín de los Andes with Villa La Angostura.
The first settlers of the town were people who sought to escape the frenetic pace of large cities like Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario and La Plata. They formed the first Development Commission. Despite not having traditional electricity, the inhabitants have adapted their homes using solar and wind energy, in addition to having telephone and wireless internet services.

How to get to Villa Lago Meliquina
The most common access to the villa is by car. From San Martín de los Andes, you take the Provincial Route 48 heading north, following the signs to “Villa Meliquina” or “Route of the Seven Lakes”. The journey is approximately 41 kilometers and usually lasts about an hour.
Since 2020, a tourist information office located on Provincial Route 63, in front of the fire station, offers free WiFi access. There, visitors can scan a QR code to view an interactive map detailing accommodation options, dining and other services available in the village.
