The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri, He toured the capitals of Portugal and Spain -Lisbon and Madrid- and held bilateral meetings with different political leaders in the region, in order to “continue reinforcing the role of Buenos Aires as a modern city.”
When taking stock of his tour, Macri stated: “We were able to tell the Spaniards what the direction of Argentina is and what we are doing so that Buenos Aires can fully develop all its potential and assume its rightful place as a leading city in the region.”

Jorge Macri’s bilateral meetings in Madrid and Lisbon
During his time in the Iberian Peninsula, Macri held various bilateral meetings with political leaders. In Madrid, he met the mayor of the Spanish capital, José Luis Martínez Almeida; the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso; and the head of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijoo. While in Lisbon he did the same with the mayor of that city, Carlos Moedas. With them, the head of Government signed cooperation agreements in different areas.

Regarding the meeting with Isabel Ayuso, he remarked: “We both face the challenge of governing large global capitals, We share values, a culture, a language and a history that unites us. Also a vision of respect for order, property and the individual freedom of our citizens.”
Furthermore, he stated that his meetings revolved around ratifying “the decision and commitment to continue joining forces in the fight against populism and authoritarian regimes to guarantee the strengthening of democracy, freedom and the rule of law”.
Along these lines, he provided strong support to Edmundo González Urrutiathe candidate for president of Venezuela exiled in Madrid: “González Urrutia is a symbol of the fight for freedom in Venezuela, I conveyed our support to him in this difficult moment. Venezuela is strong and clear that it wants to live in democracy.” Besides, He asked Maduro to leave office.

The City of Buenos Aires will host the summit of Ibero-American mayors in 2025
Another objective of Jorge Macri’s agenda was to participate in the Assembly of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities in Madrid. The City of Buenos Aires will host the mayors’ summit in 2025.
In this regard, the head of Government expressed: “It is a clear example of the leadership we have as a city around the world. These spaces are an enormous step to make our cities a better place to live”.
