Mini-jobbers can expect more money from January: with the increase in the minimum wage, the earning limit also rises. However, the mini-job headquarters urges caution.
Whether during your studies, school holidays or to supplement your pension: mini-jobs are booming in Germany. Currently, 3.39 million people in Germany do so-called “marginal employment” as a secondary activity. And they can look forward to more money: From January, the general minimum wage will rise to 12.82 euros – and with it the upper earnings limit for mini-jobs.
So anyone who earns the minimum wage will see their monthly income increase from 538 to 556 euros from 2025 – and without losing the advantages of mini-job employment. Calculated over a year, the wages increase to 6,672 euros. Important: Due to the increase in the minimum wage and the adjustment of the upper earnings limit, the maximum working hours for mini-jobbers remain the same – 43 hours per month.
Of course, this does not apply to people who earn more than the minimum wage in their mini-job. The mini-job headquarters advises those affected to calculate exactly how many hours per month they can work with the respective salary so as not to lose the privileges of mini-job status.

What is considered a mini-job?
Two types of work are generally considered mini-jobs:
- Minor employment: Previously called a “450 euro job”. Part-time employment is an activity in which the monthly salary may not exceed a certain limit – from January 556. The maximum monthly number of hours is determined by the hourly wage. The general minimum wage also applies to mini-jobs, meaning employees are currently allowed to work a maximum of 43 hours per month.
- Short-term employment: The classic “holiday job”. With this type of mini-job, you can work a maximum of three months or 70 days per year. There is no need to pay attention to the hourly wage and therefore the monthly income. However, it should be noted that employees have the right to the statutory minimum wage even with this type of mini-job.
