In the middle of the car crisis, the industry is planning the IAA 2025 – and it is being very well received. The German auto industry wants to show that it is still capable of innovation.
According to the organizers, the automotive industry’s interest in the IAA Mobility trade fair next year is greater than in 2023. “We currently have 20 percent more registrations,” says the IAA project manager of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Jan Heckmann. There are significantly more suppliers who want to exhibit, especially among suppliers.
The IAA will take place in Munich from September 9th to 14th. For the general public, there are exhibitions and festivals in several places in the city center, from where visitors can also start test drives. The specialist audience meets at the exhibition center in Riem for a personal exchange.
In times of crisis, industry meetings are important
This precise division was very well received by the exhibitors, says VDA managing director Jürgen Mindel. The automotive industry could show its innovative strength at the IAA. And “particularly in times of crisis, such industry meetings and personal exchanges are more important than ever.”
The applicants include Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and the Chinese car manufacturer BYD, suppliers such as Bosch, ZF, Schaeffler, Continental, Valeo and Forvia as well as tech companies such as Google and Samsung.
The interest of Chinese companies in facing competition in Europe remains unbroken, says Mindel. An e-car congress organized by the Chinese Automobile Association is also firmly planned for the trade fair. The industry giants Toyota and Stellantis and the US car manufacturers Tesla, Ford and GM are not among the exhibitors so far. But there are discussions, says Heckman.
