Todd Haynes will preside over the jury for the next 75th Berlin International Film Festival. It will be the first edition headed by Tricia Tuttle, former director of the BFI’s London Film Festival.

The American director, screenwriter and producer has had a close relationship with the Berlinale for some time, since his first feature film, poisonreceived the Teddy Award in 1991, the festival’s queer film award, after winning the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.
Todd Haynes will chair the Berlinale
In a statement, the Berlinale praised Haynes as “a dazzlingly talented writer and director with an impressive scope,” noting that “his work is at once stylistically versatile but also unmistakably his own.”
Key works in Haynes’ prolific filmography include Safe (1995); Velvet Goldmine (1998); the fictional biographical film about Bob Dylan I’m Not There (2007), which won the Grand Jury Prize in Venice; the miniseries Mildred Pierce (2011); carol (2015); Wonderstruck (2017); Dark Waters (2019); The Velvet Underground (2021) and May December (2023).
In the statement, the Berlinale also stressed that “For almost 40 years, Todd Haynes has been one of the boldest and most distinctive cinematic voices in American cinema, loved for his great sensitivity in exploring the inner worlds of the marginalized and women, and his fascinating investigations into gender and identity.”
“His ability to create complex characters has attracted many of the world’s best actors. stars like Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor They have played multifaceted characters in their films. The films of Todd Haynes and his actors have won awards at numerous international film festivals,” the statement added.
The 75th edition of the Berlinale will take place from February 13 to 23, 2025. Tuttle will succeed Carlo Chatrian and Mariette Rissenbeek, who jointly led the Berlinale as artistic and executive directors since 2020.
