The future of the Deutschlandticket is secured for 2025 – but the political dispute does not end. Despite the election campaign, one thing is particularly important now from the consumer advice center’s point of view.
Consumer advocates are calling for a cross-party commitment to the repeatedly discussed Germany ticket for local public transport. “Millions of users trust that all parties will pull together and make the Deutschlandticket future-proof,” said Gregor Kolbe, consultant for transport markets at the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations.
“A clear commitment to the Germany ticket and long-term, secured funding from the federal and state governments must be a high priority for all parties.” Anyone who doubts the ticket is playing with the trust of the voters.
Around 13 million people use the Deutschlandticket. You can use it to travel on local and regional buses and trains throughout the country – regardless of the federal state, transport association or tariff area. It currently costs 49 euros per month, but in the new year it will be 58 euros according to a decision by the state transport ministers.
After the coalition of the SPD, Greens and FDP collapsed, the financing of the subscription was open, which was introduced in May last year and has been discussed again and again since then. On Friday, the Union faction signaled its approval of a change in the law that will secure the Germany ticket at least in the coming year. At the same time, CDU candidate for chancellor Friedrich Merz made it clear that he expected “difficult negotiations” to finance the nationwide ticket beyond 2025.
