November 26, 2024 – 12:15

The measure was ordered by the ANAC auditor, María Julia Cordero. Now, professionals will be able to carry out flights up to the age of 68 in some cases.

He Government ordered a new change in air regulations. Through the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC)directed by the auditor Maria Julia Corderothe ruling party ruled that now professionals will be able to make flights to the 66 yearsin the case of aircraft that require single-pilot operation, and up to 68 years in the case of those that require two officers on board.

The measure became official after the publication of the Resolution 516/2024 in the Official Gazette. From the libertarian administration they assured that the measure responds to the need to cover the growing demand of the aeronautical sector and optimize human resourcesand is effective for local flights and for connections with other countries.

The Government extended the age limit for pilots

In detail, in the recitals of the resolution the Government assured that “applications have been received to raise the age of pilots who perform pilot functions in aircraft that require a single pilot affected by a commercial air transportation company, or in the case of operations with aircraft that require a pilot and co-pilot in both cases within national or international territory.”

The resolution extends the retirement age to 66 or 68 years, depending on the type of flight.

“The proposal of making the maximum age of pilots more flexible, comes to accept the trend that is observed in the civil aeronautical regulations of various countriesin which there is a tendency to increase the age limit for the holder of a pilot’s license to exercise his powers in commercial air transport operations on national and international flights, given that the age is limited by the psycho-physical conditions and other requirements of knowledge, experience and expertise, demanded by the Aeronautical Authority”, detailed from the government.

As a consequence of these proposals, the intervener modified the amendment of sections 61.3 (h), 61.133 (a)(4) and (b) (5), 61.149 (b)(1) and 61.167 (a)(5) and (b)(6), of Part 61 of the Argentine Civil Aviation Regulations (RAAC) “Licenses and Certificate of Competence and Ratings for Pilots”.

In this way, the pilots were enabled to carry out professional flights up to age 66, in cases where only one professional is needed on the aircraft. For the planes that require two officers on boardthe age will extend to 68 years old.

Rating for foreign pilots

The recent change in the retirement age of pilots is one of the many changes that the Government implemented through the ANAC. Just a few weeks ago, the ruling party also regulated authorizations for commercial air operations with personnel and aircraft with foreign registration.

Through this regulation, the Government delegates to the ANAC the implementation of the necessary authorization procedures for foreign personnel perform aeronautical functions in aerocommercial services, as well as the use of foreign-registered aircraft to operate in our country when an airline requires it.

After knowing the decision, the Air Line Pilots Association (APLA) initiated legal actions against the administration’s regulation of the operation of aircraft and foreign crews. In their writing, they denounced the Government’s measure and assured that “these decisions seriously affect our national aeronautical industry. If we have authorized and trained Argentine pilots, there is no reason to implement this procedure”.
