The Government launched the new Federal Criminal Procedure Code in Patagonia

This new mechanism will reach the provinces of Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands.

The governors of Chubut, Ignacio Torres, of Santa Cruz, Claudio Vidal, the Ministers of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona, of Security, Patricia Bullrichthe President of the Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation, Mariano Borinsky and the Attorney General, Eduardo Casalannounced the launch of Accusatory Federal Criminal Prosecution System for the Patagonian provinces.

This new system implies that investigations will be in the hands of prosecutors, who will be able to carry out methods to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism, corruption, confiscation of assets (forfeiture of ownership). In addition, these crimes will be incorporated into the New Penal Code and the possibility of having oral and public hearings with participation of all partiesin particular, the victim and their access to Justice.

The system will apply to the jurisdiction of the Federal Chamber of Comodoro Rivadavia and will cover the provinces of Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands.

The Ministry of Justice assured that a “milestone” is marked in the “commitment to transform the judicial system”

“This implementation marks a milestone in our commitment to transform the judicial systemending eternal trials, reducing judicial bureaucracy and quickly imprisoning the most dangerous criminals,” said the ministry in charge of Mariano Cúneo Libarona.

“With this latest extension, The adversarial system is already in force in 12 provincesfulfilling the commitment made to fully implement it throughout the country by the end of 2026,” the Ministry added in a statement.

In turn, they announced that before December 2023, The system “was only operational in Salta and Jujuy” with a “precarious infrastructure that perpetuated inefficiency.”

“In less than 11 months, this administration allocated more than $4,367 million to modernize 23 courtrooms with state-of-the-art technology“, they specified and highlighted that they also added “intensive days of training, mock hearings and agreements with provinces such as Mendoza and Neuquén“.

“These initiatives ensure that judicial operators are fully prepared to face the demands of this new modelwhich prioritizes orality, speed and transparency,” he added.

Finally, Justice closed the statement by ratifying that “the transformation is forceful”, “it puts an end to decades of impunity” and “guarantees a modern judicial systemfast and at the service of good Argentines”.
