Tonieboxes are popular with children. The Tonies figures with radio plays and music are available to buy worldwide. Now, according to the manufacturer, a special threshold has been exceeded.
The Toniebox loudspeaker system is found in many children’s rooms, not just in Germany. A few days ago, the 100 million audio figure sales mark was broken worldwide, as the listed toy manufacturer Tonies announced. It was said that Germany was the country where most of the figures were purchased.
The device, designed for children, has been sold since 2016. Children can place figures, the so-called Tonies, on a battery-operated box, activate and play content. According to the company, more than 1,100 Tonies with radio plays and music are now available in different languages.
There are figures from many well-known series such as Benjamin Blümchen, Asterix, Jungle Book, Paw Patrol, Pippi Longstocking, Yakari and Maya the Bee. The idea for the loudspeaker comes from a start-up in Düsseldorf.
Expert: “Robust design and high mobility”
From the point of view of game researcher Volker Mehringer, the popularity of the Toniebox and the figures cannot be attributed to one factor. “It’s more the successful interaction of various factors: These include, among other things, the attractive and robust design, the high mobility thanks to the built-in battery, the easy and child-friendly usability and the wide range of radio plays.” The Tonies are not only attractive to children for listening to, but also for playing and collecting.
In addition to the Toniebox, there are other music and radio play players for children, such as Hörbert, Tigerbox and Galakto. The Kekzhörer is a children’s headphone with replaceable audio chips; other models include a CD player.
