“You are a guarantee of tranquility and security for our neighbors,” said the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri. So far this year, 2,600 have already taken to the streets.

To continue working on security, The City adds almost 1,000 new police officers and firefighters, and so far this year 2,600 have already taken to the streets. The Head of Government, Jorge Macri, He led the swearing-in in an exciting ceremony at the Mary Teran de Weiss Stadium, in Parque Roca, in front of 14,000 people.

“The value of protecting and saving lives cannot be measured, it is invaluable. You are a source of pride for the City, and a guarantee of tranquility and security for our neighbors. If we say that the City of Buenos Aires is one of the safest capitals in Latin America, it is because of trained professionals like you. We, as always, will be there to support them, with firmness and determination,” said Jorge Macri. There are 831 police officers and 149 firefighters who graduated from the Buenos Aires Higher Institute of Public Security.

At the swearing-in, in Villa Soldati, the head of Government was accompanied by the Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff; the Secretary of Security, Diego Kravetz; the Minister of Justice, Gabino Tapia, the City Attorney General, Martín Ocampo, the Minister of Public Space and Urban Hygiene, Ignacio Baistrocchi, and the head of the City Police, Pablo Kisch, among others. There was also the director of the Higher Institute of Public Security, Javier Martín López Zavaleta, who took the oath of office to the new officers.

For the first time, as promised by the head of Government, the swearing-in took place outside the Higher Institute of Public Security, and there was no entry fee so that family members could follow the emotional moment from a larger and more comfortable place, the seats of the Mary Teran Stadium in Weiss.

Jorge Macri added: “Criminals in the City of Buenos Aires are not welcome. We take charge and do not look the other way, even knowing that we have to live with a very different reality, with a province of Buenos Aires that is out of control. And it is no coincidence that almost all those killed in the line of duty in recent times have occurred in the province of Buenos Aires. We take care of those who take care of us. We do this through a comprehensive security policy, which we promote on a sustained basis in the City.”

“I want to remind you that we have equipment so that each of you does not work with a hot vest, as is done in other forces due to lack of equipment. And if any of you want to return home wearing that vest that protects you, know that it is available. We care a lot that they take care of us, but we care more that they take care of themselves, that they return to their homes and can hug their families,” highlighted the head of government.

Then, Jorge Macri asked the new police officers to break protocol: “I know that all of you cadets have the obligation to pay attention to me or to those who spoke before. But now I ask you to look at the most important thing that each of you has. Look in these wonderful stands for your relatives who came here to accompany you and the families, and take the opportunity to greet them.” It was a moment of great emotion for everyone.

With this new graduation of officers, Jorge Macri’s management incorporated more than 1,600 police officers this year, in addition to another 1,000 who fulfilled administrative tasks and are already working on the streets of the City. Currently, the force has more than 26,000 troops working for security in the City.

The Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff, stated: “This is accompanied by a cultural change that is built together. The City Police are respected. All our strength is a source of pride. We know of your commitment, vocation and dedication. This year we reduced homicides due to robbery by less than half, taking care of the most precious thing we have, life. But there is a more important fact: 2024 is going to be the year with the fewest homicides in the history of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.”

One of the central objectives of management is urban planning. For this purpose, the City’s Comprehensive Security Plan was implemented, which aims to increase police presence on the street, guarantee compliance with the law, restore order in public spaces and fight against crime and illegal trade networks.

To join the City Police, cadets must complete two years of police training. In the first six months they have regular classes plus a year of admission to the Institute, in order to graduate as officers. The last six months are designed for agents to begin practicing the profession, while completing the study of various modules that will allow them to receive a Higher Technician in Public Security, a title endorsed by the Ministry of Education.
