The actress said that the injuries took a year to heal and affected her participation in her next film.

The star of The substance, Margaret Qualleyrevealed that working on the award-winning film left him with skin damage that took about a year to recover from.

As the movie progresses, The changes to her character, Sue, required many prosthetics for the final “body horror.” The process of using them took its toll on him, as he recalls on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “At the end, when they’re filming my skirt in the opening credits, and it’s like there are palm trees everywhere and they have all these long lenses from below, that’s just because my face was so fucked up,” she said. “They couldn’t film my face anymore”.

The actress went from filming The Substance directly to the set of the surreal drama Yorgos Lanthimos Kinds Of Kindnesswhich required him to play four different characters. Fortunately, the acne he had from wearing the prosthetics was useful for the interpretation of one of his roles.

“So, you know the character who has all that acne? “It was just my acne from the prostheses.”Qualley said. “And I thought, ‘Oh, this is perfect. I’m playing all these different characters. For one of them, we’ll use all my crazy prosthetic acne.’ “It probably took me a year to physically recover from all that.”

Substance was one of the hits of the year, and recently Qualley’s co-star, Demi Moorewon a Golden Globe.
