Coca-Cola calls back numerous soft drinks from beverage cans and glass bottles. This is done due to an excessive chlorate content and in consultation with the responsible authorities in Belgium and Luxembourg, the company said in Brussels. However, a very low risk for consumers are assumed.

Chlorate inhibits the absorption of iodine in the thyroid gland. According to the BVL (Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety), this can cause undesirable health effects, especially for sensitive people with thyroid dysfunction.

Coca Cola: None of the products affected by the recall in Germany

According to the Belgian news agency Belga, the doses and glass bottles were expelled not only in Belgium and Luxembourg, but also in Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain and France.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Germany (CCEP DE), however, emphasized that none of the products affected by the recall had been sold in Germany. “All drinks led by CCEP DE are flawless. The goods brought from Belgium to Germany were intended exclusively for further exports,” said a spokesman for the German Press Agency.

According to the Belga news agency, the products concerned were produced in Ghent between November 23 and December 3 at the location of Coca-Cola. Among other things, various cola, sprit and fantasy types are called back. Coca-Cola has published an exact list on the net.

According to the information, goods with production code from 328 GE to 338 are affected. According to Coca-Cola, this stands on the bottom of the can or on the neck or label of the glass bottle.
