Collection against Amazon Prime – almost 83,000 participants

Without approval more advertising on Prime Video? The Saxony Consumer Center saw this and complained. Tens of thousands of consumers are already included.

Thousands of households in Germany take part in the class action against Amazon because of the streaming service Prime Video. So far, 82,941 consumers have registered in the plague register, as the Saxony consumer center announced.

The background is a change in the streaming service Prime Video: More advertising has been played there since February 2024-without prior consent from customers.

The complaint register was opened in May 2024. Everyone who had an Amazon Prime subscription and paid for the lawsuit can join the lawsuit before February 5.

Higher fee for advertising -free streaming

Amazon had given its customers a choice of seeing advertising in streaming in the future or streaming for almost three euros more per month. Consumer advocates see the change an inadmissible contract adjustment and call for the reimbursement of the additional payments.

In a similar case, the Consumer Center North Rhine-Westphalia had success against Amazon: The Düsseldorf district court declared a price increase of Prime inadmissible. It was about increasing the annual fee from 69 to 89.90 euros.
