If you are waiting for an urgent letter, you may have to be patient. Because Verdi stirs the strike drum again and this time is targeting letter centers.
In the tariff conflict at Deutsche Post, the Verdi union puts pressure on employers with warning strikes. Verdi said that the employees in nationwide selected letter centers were called for work in Berlin on Tuesday. It is about letter centers in Heilbronn, Mannheim, Freiburg and Offenburg (Baden-Württemberg) as well as in Cologne, Bonn, Hagen and Siegen (NRW).
In letter centers, the programs are sorted and forwarded to delivery base points, where postmen take the letters with them and then deliver. In the past week, Verdi had already strike other locations from the mail belonging to the logistician DHL last week.
Deutsche Post initially spoke of a “rather low” participation in the stride that around 450 employees at 21 letter centers had participated. Nationwide, Post has 21,600 employees at 82 letter centers.
Probably only a low single -digit percentage of the letters will remain strike due to strike and will not be forwarded to the delivery base points as intended – this amount is missing on Wednesday. Already on Tuesday there was no mailbox empty due to the warning strike, which will probably follow on Wednesday. According to a company spokeswoman, the warning strikes have so far had no effect on the Bundestag letter election.
Verdi demands strong wage increase
The union calls for a fee plus of seven percent for the approximately 170,000 tariff employees of the Swiss Post in Germany. They should also get three extra vacation days. If you are a Verdi member, you should even get four additional vacation days. The union justifies its demand with the more expensive everyday life and the increased workload, which requires more free time and thus more recovery.
The mail goes too far, it demands an economically sustainable tariff increase. The company refers to the mailing quantities and the high investment needs in the digital age. The scope for wage increases is “very low”, it was said by the company. The post office announced that the tariff round, which starts on February 12, announced an offer.
“Instead of insisting on the fact that the claims cannot be financed, employers should rather listen carefully,” said trade unionist Thomas Großstück. “The employees know best how to make the work more relieved and therefore more attractive and what fair payment means.”
The post-spokeswoman called the warning strike at the letter centers “not understandable”. A solution to the negotiating table is still striving for, which takes into account the interests of the employees and ensure the future viability of the company. “That should also be in the interest of the employee side,” said the company spokeswoman.
