A two -day summit on the subject of artificial intelligence began in the French capital Paris on Monday. Around 1,500 participants from 100 countries are expected. This includes top politicians, corporate chiefs and scientists. Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, US Vice President JD Vance and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have announced. Interim Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg and State Secretary Claudia Plakolm represent Austria.
France’s President Emmanuel Macron invited. He likes to appear in the European Union as a driver of the technological transformation. With the summit in Paris, Macron wants to counteract the impending deficit of Europe in the global AI race. The meeting follows two international AI summits in 2023 in Great Britain and last year in Korea.
“We need more European economic patriotism,” said Macron in an interview with French regional newspapers and added: “We have to buy AI applications from France and Europe, wherever they exist.” It is about the new technology not only becoming a “battle between the USA and China”. In addition to the two business powers, the votes of Europeans and other important states would also have to be heard.
