Car and train driving became significantly more expensive in January

The prices for mobility have increased significantly at the beginning of the year. In the multi -year comparison, drivers had to put more on top.
The way to work has become more expensive for both rail and drivers. In the rail transport, prices in January increased an average of 6 percent compared to the same month last year, as the Federal Statistical Office announced. In local transport, the inflation was even 7.6 percent. The prices for combined tickets for buses and trains rose by almost 12 percent.
According to the statistics, the driver was primarily the more expensive Germany ticket: the price for the nationwide-valid monthly subscription for local and regional traffic increased by around one fifth to 58 euros per month in January.
Insurance premiums rose by more than one fifth
But drivers also had to put it on. In particular, prices for car insurance rose by almost 21 percent in January. The workshop visit also became more expensive, around 5.6 percent compared to January of the previous year. The fuel price, on the other hand, remained almost unchanged in the previous year.
Anyone who is on the move, however, came away cheaper. The prices for bicycle accessories we lock or speedometer remained almost constant compared to January of the previous year. Bicycles themselves became 2.6 percent more expensive, but e-bikes or pedelecs were around 0.4 percent cheaper.
Drivers in the price disadvantage in the multi -year comparison
With a view to long -term price development in mobility, drivers had to dig deeper into their pockets than other road users. Between 2020 and 2024, the prices for goods and services around the car rose by more than 28 percent. This was significantly higher than the average consumer prices, which, according to the Federal Office, granted around 19 percent in the same period. Above all, the premiums for vehicle insurance and fuels also became considerably more expensive.
Price development is more differentiated in rail traffic. Only railway tickets for local transport increased by almost 12 percent between 2020 and 2024. By introducing the Germany ticket, on the other hand, prices for combined tickets dropped by more than 17 percent in the same period. Long -distance traffic also got cheaper – around and 5 percent since 2020.
