There is no end in sight in the collective bargaining conflict at Deutsche Post. In the third round of negotiations on higher fees of around 170,000 postal employees, there was no agreement, the Verdi union said in Kassel.

The company had previously submitted an offer, according to which the fees in a 27 -month collective agreement should initially increase by 1.8 percent and later by a further 2.0 percent. Employees who have less than 30 vacation days should get an extra vacation day. According to the post office, this would be two thirds of their employees in the letter and package area. The company called its proposal “fair and sustainable”.

Clepch between tariff parties still big

At Verdi, people were completely different. The offer is “completely inadequate,” said Verdi-Vice Andrea Kocsis. “The colleagues will give their answer to the offer in the companies – also with warning strikes.” However, there should only be work references after the Bundestag election to ensure that the postal vote runs smoothly.

Verdi demands an increase of 7 percent in a 12-month collective agreement and three extra vacation days. If you are a Verdi member, you should even get four extra vacation days. The union justifies its demands with the increased cost of living and the higher workload of the postlers.

Post refers to difficult economic framework conditions

“We regret that we have not yet reached an agreement in this wage round,” said Post Human Resources Director Thomas Ogilvie and rated it as a positive sign that Verdi had asked management to be a fourth tariff round – that indicates “an honest interest” to reach an agreement at the negotiating table. The new collective agreement must be economically justifiable, it says from the company, which indicates shrinking mail quantities, falling revenues and higher costs for energy and transport. In addition, the investment requirement is high.
