The weak economy hits part of German mechanical engineering. But the industry remains confident, also with a view to business with the USA.
Despite the growing economic risks, German mechanical engineering initially does not expect the loss of many jobs in the industry. “We hope for our industry that there is only a slight job cuts this year and that we can keep the number of employees stable despite the difficult times,” said the President of the Association of German Machine and Plant Construction (VDMA), Bertram Kawlath, The “Augsburger Allgemeine”.
“Our predominantly medium -sized companies try to keep the core workers with all the forces,” said Kawlath. “These entrepreneurs know that they urgently need their employees when it goes up again”
The customs threats of US President Donald Trump confidently pursue the industry. “We are watching Trump’s efforts from a robust position,” said Kawlath. “Our companies produce products that companies cannot buy from American competitors,” he added. “If Trump wants companies to invest more in the USA, they cannot avoid buying machines of German manufacturers.”
