The offspring pay more attention to his work-life balance, says IG-Bau boss Feiger. In order to close the skilled workers, the industry must therefore break new ground.
The federal chairman of the IG Bau union, Robert Feiger, wants to fight the shortage of skilled workers in its industry with more days off. “Young people look much more on the work-life balance today, so more days off can also ensure more attractiveness in the construction,” the union leader told the Editorial Network Germany. The industry has to do everything to make the construction profession more attractive among young people. In the current conflict of tariffs from the public service, free days are part of the demands: In addition to a wage plus, the Verdi union demands three additional free days, even four for union members.
Feiger continued, even in summer there should be short -time work money due to ever more extreme temperatures. “If a roofer works on a metal roof in midsummer, it can quickly get 50 degrees hot.” For this, new regulations are needed, according to the IG-Bau boss-so that the employees of older age could still work in their job.
