Does the care allowance count as an income?

Many pensioners are in need of care and therefore receive care allowance. What effects does this have on pension payments and additional earnings? And what applies to caring relatives?

The money that those in need of care is a social benefit and is therefore not considered to be eligible income. This means that it does not belong to the income or the additional earnings of pensioners, which is why it is not taxable. Even for citizens’ gates, unemployment benefit is not counted towards unemployment benefit.

The same applies: If the person in need of care passes the money on to relatives or close friends from whom they are cared for as recognition or allowance, then these people also do not have to tax it and do not indicate it as additional earnings.

Nursing allowance can only be taxed in a few cases

It is different if the money goes to a nursing assistant who has no close bond with the person in need of care. In such cases, it is assumed that the person has a financial interest in care and thus achieves an income. In this case it is taxable.

How much pension can I have without paying taxes?

If nursing relatives are even younger, then the nursing time applies to you under certain conditions as a contribution time for pension insurance. The long -term care fund then pays contributions to the pension fund (albeit small). For this, at least care level 2 must be reached and the time required must be at least ten hours a week, with home care. The helper may then be employed for a maximum of 30 hours per week. Depending on the covered care degree, relatives can thus improve their own pension claims.

Care allowance and pension: Who gets it?

People get care allowance from long -term care insurance who have at least care level 2 and are maintained at home. Anyone who lives in the nursing home is no claim. It is crucial for whether someone reaches care level 2, for example, how the person can take care of how mobile it is and how well they can plan their daily routine herself.
