Difficult messages have been changing for weeks. The Bundestag election is imminent. Our author says time to reflect briefly.
Yes, the news of the past few days can seriously worry. The Munich security conference will probably find a place in the history books. Also memorable to the meeting of the Chancellor’s candidates for the Bundestag election starRTL and N-TV (the star is part of RTL Germany). But with all the legitimate worries and serious fears: We should let our basic values shake nothing or anyone. We should think about it more than ever.
For news about migration
You don’t have to personally close people from other countries and cultures. But you have to respect them in principle. As humans. Article 1 Basic Law. Crimes are unacceptable. From whom always celebrated.
One can have the view that the federal authorities, in the federal states and municipalities, are overwhelmed with the number of cases of refugees and countless legal files. And one can ask the question of whether, and if so, at what points, the ability to integrate a receiving society reaches its limits. And yes, you can hold a relatively long time of failures and weakness in action. But certainly not in the past few months. There is no reason to continue to follow right -wing extremist propaganda.
To Kremlin and White House
You can be afraid of Russia. Justified. However, as a free, democratic society, you should not throw yourself in the dust in front of a warlike ruler in the Kremlin. This is neither necessary nor clever for free Europe. You have to react appropriately.
You have to take note of Mr. Vance and Musk’s statements about politics in Germany. And unfortunately serious. You can evaluate it. But: You do not have to be instructed by this US administration about freedom, constitutional democracy, even freedom of expression.
To criticism and compromise
One can criticize economic development in Germany. However, social market economy means not only relying on the state, but doing something against the misery itself. With training and further education, with retraining, also with a start-up spirit. And if it goes wrong, especially in need, the welfare state helps. It is never “perfect”, but by far the best economic model that Germany has ever had. Embedded in a European internal market that certainly does not work optimally, but no country benefits as much as the Federal Republic. To abolish this, as extremists claim it, would be economic suicide.
One can be annoyed by the slowness and toughness of democratically made decisions. And also ignore how quickly and well it works when there is really a need. See energy supply crisis. But one should never forget that the compromise, even if it is difficult, is the basis of our peaceful, freedom together. Anyone who believes that the “radical passage from above”, propagated by extremists on the right and left, would be better and essentially choose a totalitarian state. So rather like the GDR Politburo? Seriously?
You can and must criticize the work of governing, also sharply on the matter. And also in the type of implementation. Yes: well -intentioned was made too often too often. And you can – of course! – be completely different in terms of content. But under no circumstances is a reason to choose parties that right -wing extremists and neo -Nazis have in their ranks. Not “in protest” either. The programs of the democratic parties are definitely far enough, from Union to the left. Voices for extremists do not solve a single problem, but do considerable damage. Not least for the electorate of the rats.
