According to a report, the Munich hotel chain is now worth several billion. An important part remains in the hands of the founder.
Motel-One founder Dieter Müller sells the majority at his company. The European financial investor PAI Partners takes over 80 percent of the operational business of the Munich hotel chain, as the two companies say. Müller remains company boss – the group’s recently split -down real estate arm remains with him.
The companies did not provide any information about the purchase price for the 80 percent share. The Bloomberg financial service reports that the Motel One transaction assigns a total value of 3.5 billion euros.
The Motel One Group was founded in Munich in 2000 and, according to its own statements, currently operates 99 hotels with almost 28,000 rooms in 13 countries.
Investor has experience in the hospitality industry
“I am very happy to welcome PAI with his extensive experience in the hospitality area as a strategic partner,” said Müller. “Together we will continue to accelerate the international expansion of Motel One and write the next exciting chapter in our history.” Pai is currently involved in the European Camping Group. The chain B&B held hotels from 2016 to 2019.
Pai said: “We want to use the current momentum of the company and accompany the next growth phase.” The transaction is to be completed in the second quarter.
