Collective cleaning: More money for postman and package messenger
Warning strikes had repeatedly delayed the delivery of letters and packages. Post and Verdi have now agreed in the fourth round. Anyone who has been there for 16 years gets an extra.
Agreement in the post-tariff dispute: The approximately 170,000 posters, postmen and other logistics staff from Deutsche Post will receive 2.0 percent more money from April 1. From April 1, 2026, there should be another increase of 3.0 percent. The company and the Verdi union agreed on this in the fourth round of negotiations, as Deutsche Post and Verdi announced.
In addition, there will be more vacation for everyone from 2026. Anyone who is employed by the post for 16 years or more will receive a second additional vacation day. The collective agreement has a term of 24 months and starts retrospectively on January 1.
“After a very high tariff in 2023, we are now realizing wage increases that receive the purchasing power of our employees about the agreed term of the collective agreement,” said Post Human Resources Director Thomas Ogilvie. “This is a decent result that could not have been achieved without the pressure and high willingness of our members,” emphasized Deputy Verdi chairwoman and negotiator Andrea Kocsis.
The DHL director Nikola Hagleitner, responsible for the post & package Germany area, said it was now the task of promoting the renovation of the division and securing the profitability of Post & Paket Germany. “With a view to the environment and this tariff degree, we will therefore have to consistently expand and accelerate our cost reduction measures.” She did not provide any further information.
The agreement was reached after a negotiating marathon that had already started on Monday morning. After a short night’s rest, the negotiations had continued on Tuesday morning. Ogilvie described the negotiations as extremely difficult. The tariff parties had met for the first time in early January.
The union had started negotiations with a seven percent claim with a term of twelve months. In addition, the tariff employees should get three extra vacation days, Verdi members four.
Deutsche Post had rejected this and pointed out high investment needs and shrinking mail quantities. In the third round, the company then offered an increase of 1.8 percent in a 27 -month contract and later by a further 2.0 percent. Deutsche Post belongs to the logistics group DHL.
In the past few weeks, thousands of employees have participated in all -day warning strikes. Strike was carried out, among other things, in the package and letter centers as well as in the package, letter and composite delivery. As a result, numerous programs only arrived late.
